Many of the skills used in kitchen work are the same, but rarely does it involve direct service to the people eating. Typically the caterer will prepare food for a large quantity of people. Menu selection and creation are typical jobs for the caterer.

As the lives of CEOs and other important people become busier, their need to have a personal chef also increases. Typically, the personal chef will be working for a single client and prepares small catered events that suit their preferences and dietary needs. Some personal chefs will provide personalized meals for not only their families, but their friends as well. In a corporate environment, the personal chef may provide meal options exclusively for the executives of the company. These personal chefs will prepare meals weeks in advance.


As a personal chef, this is a very rewarding position for those in the culinary arts. Many personal chefs work for themselves and are often referred to other clients by reputation.


For those with a knack for science, becoming a nutritionist is a good career choice. This job is different from cooks or those who prepare food. Nutritionists get involved with the study of how food affects the human body. They analyze specific nutrients in the food being served and serve as consultants in dietary preparation. Nutritionists will create the foundation of what meals are to be served or what items are contained in the menu.

The nutritionist often works in hospitals, schools, or in clinical environments where the need for a specific diet or public safety is often served. The regular duties of the nutrition may also include writing or working providing information to the public and may sell their services to others. While many nutritionists hold Bachelor’s Degrees, it isn’t always a requirement and those with specific training can work as a nutritionist.
