Arizona is known all over the country for its delicious food and culinary expertise. Arizona boasts of a number of different historic culinary triumphs along with tried and tested farming methods. The state is the origin of a number of different foods.
Besides the more traditional approach, the city also boasts of many trendy bars and diners. Other than that, many people looking to undertake a career in the food industry also come to the state every year with hopes and aspirations.
The two most well-known Arizonian nourishment are the Saguaro and the prickly pear cactus. The Saguaro is a cactus like fruit which can be used to make a number of different spicy recipes. One particularly well-known recipe is the Saguaro Salsa. This is made from cantaloupe, watermelon, red wine, rice wine etc.
The prickly pear cactus can also be used to make a variety of servings like prickly pear tuna jelly, prickly pear margaritas, prickly pear stuffed paddles and the like. A prickly pear orange marmalade recipe is particularly well-known among Arizonians.
Mesquite Skirt Steak is also common.
Arizona offers a number of different culinary positions for people who aspire to be a part of the Arizona culinary culture. People can go ahead and work as chefs in different restaurants. This includes the position of chief chef who is responsible for the whole kitchen. Then there is the executive chef who is the second-in-command and lastly there is the sous chef which can be called the third most important person in the kitchen. Chefs are in charge of the restaurants creativity as they come up with new dishes to offer in their restaurants. On average, a chef is able to get over $40,000 with a sous chef getting a little less in comparison.
There are a number of culinary schools in the region which offer programs that are as long as four years to eight months. The major courses will teach students on becoming entrepreneurs and overseeing their own restaurants. Hands-on cooking is taught with a large focus on interactive learning. Nourishment qualities of many different schools are taught too. The Arizona culinary institute is particularly well-known. It is located in Scottsdale. Other institutes are the Art Institute of Phoenix, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Tucson.
